Law firms

Websites for law firms and solo attorneys.

A prospective client has a problem, a short list, and about ten seconds. Your site has to say which matters you handle, show that you are credible, and make the consultation easy to request. Everything else is in service of those three.

What decides it

Legal work is bought on trust, under pressure.

Somebody looking for an attorney is usually having a bad month. They are dealing with an accident, a closing that is going sideways, an estate, a charge, a dispute with a landlord. They open three or four firm websites in a row and close most of them within seconds.

What keeps them on the page is recognition. They want to see the specific thing that happened to them named on the page, in the words they would use for it. A visitor with a slip-and-fall is looking for a slip-and-fall, and a page headed "Personal Injury" that never gets more specific asks them to do the translating.

Then they want a reason to believe you. Years in practice, bar admissions, where you went to school, results where you are permitted to describe them, and a photograph of an actual person. A firm site that reads as a brochure written by nobody in particular loses to one that reads as a lawyer who has handled this before.

What gets built

The pieces a firm site needs to earn a call.

Six things that shape a law firm build, whichever platform the site ends up on.

A page per practice area

One page for each matter type, written in the language clients use rather than the language of the statute. This is what lets a firm rank for the specific thing somebody is searching.

Attorney bios that read like people

Admissions, experience, and background, written to build confidence rather than to list credentials. For a solo practice the bio is frequently the most visited page on the site.

A short path to a consultation

Phone, form, and hours visible on every page and at every screen size, so a visitor who has decided to call never has to hunt for how.

Local search structure

Legal searches skew heavily local. Location relevance, Google Business Profile alignment, and schema markup that states plainly what the firm does and where.

Content that answers real questions

The questions you already answer on the phone every week, written down. These bring in the searches that lead to consultations, and they are increasingly what AI tools quote.

Accessibility groundwork

Structure that works with assistive technology, which matters more for a firm than for most businesses given who tends to be watching.

Attorney advertising rules shape the copy. New York places real limits on testimonials, comparative claims, and language around specialization, and the required notices depend on the firm and the medium. I write to the rules as your firm interprets them, and anything unclear goes back to you before it goes live rather than after.

Firms already built

Three currently under management.

Personal injury, general practice, and a solo firm serving a multilingual client base. Each built around how the firm actually takes in work.

The rest of the portfolio is on the work page. For what several years of sustained work produces, with real traffic numbers, see how this works over time.

Who this suits

Small firms where the phone is the point.

A good fit

  • Solo practices and firms of a handful of attorneys
  • Consultations are how new matters begin
  • Your current site is old, thin, or hard to update
  • You want the same person for years rather than an account team
  • You can spare an hour or two for content questions

Worth knowing

  • Practice area pages need your input; I cannot invent what you handle
  • Legal search is competitive, and results build over quarters
  • Advertising compliance stays the firm's call, with the copy written to it

If your existing site is fundamentally sound and the real problem is that nothing points at it, you will hear that before anyone quotes you a rebuild.

Questions

What firms ask first.

Do you understand attorney advertising rules?

Well enough to write to them and to raise a question rather than guess. New York limits testimonials, comparative claims, and language around specialization, and required notices vary by firm and medium. Compliance stays the firm's call: anything I am unsure about comes back to you before it goes live rather than after.

How many pages does a law firm site need?

A page for each practice area you want to be found for, a bio page for each attorney, plus home, about, and contact. A solo practice with three matter types typically lands around eight pages. Firms sometimes want fewer pages than that, and the trade is search visibility for the matter types left off.

Can you write the practice area pages for me?

Yes, and that is how most builds run. What I need from you is a conversation about what you actually handle and how you talk about it, since inventing that would produce pages that read as generic. From there the writing is mine, and you approve it before anything is published.

Can you show case results on a firm website?

Where the rules and your judgment allow it, yes, and it is persuasive when handled carefully. New York's rules govern how results can be described and what accompanying language is required. The site is built so results are straightforward to add or remove as your position on them changes.

How long before a new firm site brings in consultations?

Legal search is among the most competitive local categories, so expect movement over quarters rather than weeks. A well-structured site usually shows improvement in the first few months on the specific matter types it targets, with broader gains through the first year. Anyone promising faster than that is selling something.
